Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” is one of those timeless songs. The words hold such beautiful sincerity and vulnerability, but with an edge of defiance, and the music (written in “waltz time”) is a whirling dance of emotions.
I’ve heard that James Hetfield wrote this song about being apart from loved ones while touring. I’ve also heard that it was about his struggle with addiction. Over the years, for Metallica fans, it has become an anthem for how the music is all that matters.
For me, this is a song about chasing a dream, always “so close, no matter how far”. It’s about not listening to the haters and the doubters, trusting the process, being open and true to who you are, and remembering that you’re never alone.
I hope you love this cover as much as I love this song. 🖤
All the love,
